Swim Fins are Recommended
Our coaches are strongly recommending that swimmers bring fins to practice this season. To make this as easy and affordable as possible, we are going to do a bulk order. We are able to sell them for $19–22 depending on the size. Sizes range from Kids 6-8 to Adult 14-15. If you would like to purchase fins through the team, please click here to purchase. We will have samples in sizes Youth 8-11, Youth 11-13 and Adult 1-3 at practice this week if you need your swimmer to try them on to determine their size. Please order by Wednesday, April 26, so we can get them quickly.
Why use fins during practice? Fins are an tremendously useful tool for both novice and experienced swimmers, and coaches of all levels incorporate fins into their training programs in order to improve the technique of their swimmers. Swimming with fins increases a swimmer’s speed through the water, helping to improve their posture by keeping their hips high in the water and their body in line. They also improve the efficiency of their legs by reinforcing a short and fast kick. The added propulsion and stability of fins allows one to focus on specific components of the stroke that they’re working on.
For younger or less experienced swimmers, this is extremely helpful when working on hand/arm position. Without the added speed and stability, these swimmers would struggle to just stay afloat throughout a practice. However, by using fins, these less experienced swimmers are able to swim or complete drills at a realistic feeling of speed while isolating and focusing on their hand/arm placement. Over time, their kick technique, stroke technique, and body position are all improved.
For more experienced or competitive swimmers, fins also allow one to do more advanced drills or strokes they otherwise may not be able to do. For example, fins are immensely helpful when teaching butterfly. They reinforce proper body position and the undulation of the chest and hips while providing extra power to carry through the stroke.
Fins are exceptionally versatile and can be used by swimmers of all ages to aid the development of each and every stroke. They are an essential tool within the sport, and our coaches strongly encourage the use of them throughout this season.
